Holiday Talk:

First, the holidays are approaching, and I think we can all agree that the year has flown by extremely fast! No matter what your beliefs or religion you have, I want to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and safe holiday! With the holidays approaching, I know the first thing on my mind is cuddling up, watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas/Holiday Music, and eating a bunch of comforting foods. Some of my favorite holiday snacks and food include (but not limited to) sugar/Christmas cookies, Homemade Chex Mix, and my mom’s famous, homemade meatballs with spaghetti. Some of my favorite Holiday movies and music include, A Christmas Story, 1983, “Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane, which is also sung by, and introduced by Judy Garland in one of my favorite movies/musicals, Meet me in St. Louis, 1944. I also love A Christmas Carol which is a 2009 animation movie starring Jim Carrey. If you haven’t seen the movie, A Christmas Story, I highly recommend it plus, check out the interesting history of this movie and much more on the link attached below.

Some Personal Traditions:

Since I can remember, on Christmas Eve, my family would gather and have an Italian meal which consisted of my mom’s homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs and my grandma would stay up the night before, making all kinds of pies, cookies, and candies. I can still smell the aromas throughout the house from all the different and wide selections of treats and comfort food to choose from – cinnamon, warm cooked fruits like cherries and apples, and fresh garlic, oregano, and thick and creamy tomato sauce. Everyone always asked me why my family never celebrated Christmas on Christmas day, and I still can’t answer that question (LOL) but it was something we continued to do for years. Looking back, I guess my brother and I were lucky, not having to wait until Christmas morning to open gifts. After everyone got older and I was greeted with new cousins, and becoming an aunt, we changed things up a bit, but I have now started a Christmas Day tradition with my children and fiancé’. On Christmas Eve, I always let my children open one present, which was a new pair of pajamas, slippers, and a movie. This is something that you may also enjoy with your family and children, and it gives them something to look forward to every Christmas Eve to come – you can’t go wrong with a great movie and new pajama wear. 🙂

Holiday Movie Recommendations:

A Christmas Story, 1983

The Santa Claus, 1994 and The Santa Claus 2, 2002

Scrooged, 1988

New Year’s Resolutions:

Every New Year, I hear other individuals, including myself, ranting and raving about how they are going to prove something to themselves for the New Year. First, having resolutions are known to be a positive way to prove or benefit from a promise that one has made to themselves. Most likely, this promise will get broken before even stumbling into the benefit one is trying to seek. With New Year’s Resolutions, one may be more likely to lose interest, self-confidence, and/or become negative, before they even begin their resolution, but have you ever wondered what would happen if one set a short-term goal, which would break the resolution into two parts? By breaking up set resolutions for the New Year, one may find their self-benefiting in a positive way and feeling more confident and positive with their self and those around them. More specifically, setting a long-term goal may cause more issues than one would expect, even with a whole 12 months to complete it – it’s just how the human brain works sometimes – it wants to do the opposite of what we want. However, I’m sure there are many individuals that have completed their resolutions with no problem, but I have yet to hear of one, so please share your experiences or that of others.

In conclusion, when one tells themselves that they are going to lose a certain amount of weight within 6 months, then put a label of “New Year’s Resolution” on it, we can lose focus as we get angry with ourselves, trying to compete with others, feeling like a resolution is required and if we fail at it, doubt seeps in, so start the year off with positivity first, don’t push something/goals too fast, believe in yourself, and try to take smaller steps towards your goal, in order to benefit from your goal and stay connected with your wants and needs, rather than those of others. On a personal note, I do not do New Year’s Resolutions, because I can’t complete them for some reason or another, so trying exactly thus information I have shared above, has helped me to deal with my goals in an organized, positive, and healthy way.
